This piece was originally inspired by reading Dante's Inferno. Somewhere in the later rings of hell were souls that had taken their own lives from self-mutilation and were now turned into trees that bleed from various cuts. The imagery stuck in my head for quite a while, and eventually I made this tree collecting ravens (crows?).
